Le palais du Trocadéro, que l'on aperçoit derrière les pieds de la Tour Eiffel (7ème arrondissement), est situé de l'autre côté de la Seine. Il date de l'Exposition Universelle de 1878. Construit par Gabriel Davioud, il a survécu jusqu'en 1937, date à laquelle a été élevé le Palais de Chaillot à l'occasion de l'Exposition Universelle de 1937. C'est lui que l'on voit sur le cliché récent.
Gérard Durand ajoute que "nous aurions pu voir sur le cliché ancien, au pied de la Tour Eiffel, William Frederic Cody dit Buffalo Bill, qui de 1882 à 1912 organisa et diriga un spectacle itinérant, le « Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show ». Destiné à recréer l'atmosphère de l'ouest americain, il a attiré plus de trois millions de spectateurs". Le spectacle s'est en effet tenu sous la tour Eiffel en 1905.
